THE RESULTS ARE IN:
✂️ $17.7 million was just removed from next year’s tax ask.
This came from strategic cuts and long-overdue transparency about surplus funds. It’s a big win; not flawless, but undeniably real.
👏 Credit to the Council members who stepped up to do what was right, especially Katie Kiely, who helped uncover millions that the administration hadn’t disclosed, and to Rhonda Caldwell, who has pushed for transparency from the jump.
🤣 And yes… a few political maneuverings by some helped move things along, too. But at the end of the day? We’ll take the win.
More importantly, public pressure did this.
You came to the meetings. You wrote emails. You shared posts. You refused to be silent. That made all the difference.
ALSO PASSED: A 4-Year Revaluation Phase-In
The Council voted to phase in the new property assessments over four years. It’s not what many of us wanted, and I have complicated feelings about it, but it’s what passed.
📉 Estimated new mill rate: 52.16
This is not applied to your full new assessed value, only to a portion. I’ll break that down more once I get clarification on the math behind it.
WHAT’S NEXT:
💰 More to cover on the financial accountability ordinance
🗳️ Election season is approaching
🧾 And we’re still digging into the town’s finances
So stay tuned. There’s more work to do.
Thank you for being part of this.
